After reviewing your case, I want to clarify that the quote you received was for a full remanufactured rear axle assembly with differential, not just the pinion bearing replacement, which you mentioned. We recommended this comprehensive solution because we found metal debris in your differential fluid and noted the extremely high mileage on your vehicle's existing differential assembly. Our goal is to ensure that your vehicle remains safe and reliable for as long as possible. If we only replaced the pinion bearing, the lifespan of that new part could be significantly reduced, given the current condition of your differential. As for the time it would take to replace only the pinion bearing, Chilton labor guide time for pinion bearing replacement on your vehicle is 3.8 hours. This tells me that any competent mechanic would take almost four hours to complete the job.
